Fender announced that the Jag Stang guitar designed by Kurt Cobain returned in 2021 as part of the celebration for the 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album. The new guitar model has been available since October.

Manufacturers claim that this limited-edition comes equipped with the same features that made it Kurt’s ideal instrument.

Fender Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang, Rosewood Fingerboard, Fiesta Red
  • Alder body
  • Maple neck with 7.25” radius rosewood fingerboard
  • 24” scale length
  • Vintage-style single-coil and custom humbucking pickups
  • On-off/in-phase/out-of-phase slider switches for each pickup

This new Jag-Stang (from Jaguar and Mustang) starts from the specifications made by Cobain in 1993 (one year before he died). The original was produced in 1994 and was last reissued in 2003.

The new instrument brings the same original finishes: Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red (right and left-handed).

Despite being the model most associated with the Nirvana frontman, Cobain only played guitar a few times live.

La creación de la Jag Stang

The guitar was designed by Kurt Cobain from Fender’s Mustang and Jaguar models.

Quoted by MusicRadar magazine, Fender’s Larry Brooks said that Cobain photographed the 2 models, cut them in half, and put them together to see what they would look like.

When the prototype of the Jag-Stang was built the musician played it and wrote suggestions that were taken into account to finish the product. He then took her to his presentations on the promotional tour of his album «In Utero».

Some guitar lovers don’t praise Cobain’s skill. He himself once said that he considered himself an anti-guitarist hero. But nevertheless, he spent time designing his own guitar.

In any case, for many guitarists it will undoubtedly be a pleasure to be able to make music on the instrument he has designed.

«Invisible», music video created by an Artificial Intelligence

Duran Duran – «INVISIBLE» (Official Music Video)

Duran Duran, the memorable hit band of the 1980s, returned in 2021 with the new album “Future Past” (BMG) and «Invisible» a video made with Artificial Intelligence.

The video was directed by Huxley, an artificial intelligence whose «mind» was modeled after the cognitive and emotional processes of humans.

In the introduction of the video, you can read that «It is the very first collaboration of its kind, between artists in different planes of existence.

Although groundbreaking, this is not entirely new to Duran Duran’s artistic career, during which the band has made music videos that strayed from prevailing trends.

In that category can be cited «The Reflex», «Save a Prayer», «Hungry Like The Wolf» and «A View to a Kill», the latter a subject for the James Bond filmography.

As for the use of artificial intelligence, it is the first time that it is used to «direct a video», although songs created with algorithms in the style of some authors have already been released.

An example of this is the song «Drowned in the Sun» made in the style of Nirvana from the patterns of the music of Kurt Cobain.

The song «Invisible» features Blur’s Graham Coxon on guitar, David Bowie’s pianist Mike Garson and indie-pop artist Lykke Li.

The production of «Future Past» corresponded to the legendary Giorgio Moroder, the DJ and remixer Erol Alkan, and Mark Ronson.

In a press release from the label, the singer of the band Simon Le Bon reveals that the band first went into the studio in 2018.

«I was trying to persuade the guys that all we needed to do was write two or three tracks for an EP.

Four days later, with the nucleus of 25 plus strong songs in the can, that all deserved development, I realized we’d be in it for the long haul, but that was before Covid.

So here we are in 2021 with our 15th studio album, Future Past straining at the leash … I’m not saying it’s epic, but well … yes I am.

«We open with the song Invisible, which began as a story about a one-sided relationship but grew into something much bigger, because ‘a voiceless crowd isn’t backing down.’
