A medio siglo de lo que se considera su aparición pública, Thin Lizzy lanzó el 23 de octubre de 2020 una caja con 6 CD’s + DVD “Thin Lizzy Rock Legends” (UMC). 

Esta colección de la banda irlandesa que encabezó el bajista y cantante Phil Lynott y en la que militó el mítico guitarrista Gary Moore, contiene 99 pistas, 74 de las cuales no han sido editadas.

La compilación hecha por el guitarrista  Scott Gorham y el experto Nick Sharp, incluye demos, sesiones de radio, grabaciones en vivo y ediciones raras. 

En el DVD se puede disfrutar de “Bad Reputation”, el documental de la BBC sobre la banda y su historia de drogas y alcohol.

Algunos programas de gira de la banda y poesía de Phil Lynott, entre otras novedades son parte de la caja.

Al líder de la formación original, el bajista y cantante Phil Lynott, se le considera el primer irlandés de piel negra que logró fama en la industria musical.

Fue también un admirador de Jimi Hendrix, lo que reflejó en su apariencia.

Además de Lynott (bajo y voz), la primera formación incluyó a Eric Bell (guitarra), Brian Downey (drums) y Eric Wrixon (órgano).

Heredó sangre caribeña de su padre, el guyanés Cecil Parris, pero artísticamente utilizó el apellido de su madre irlandesa Philomena Lynot.

Lynott fue el principal autor de muchas de las canciones de Thin Lizzy, entre ellas «Whiskey in the Jar».

Al escuchar esta canción pocos probablemente puedan identificar que se trata de la versión rock de una canción tradicional irlandesa.

La banda se formó en 1969, aunque tuvo su primera actuación en 1970 y estuvo activa con distintas formaciones hasta 1983. Después fue reconstruida con otros miembros.

Generalmente se les incluye entre los grupos precursores del Hard Rock, aunque tuvieron una fuerte inclinación al blues.

Integrantes de Metallica, Jon Bon Jovi, Alice In Chains y Slash, entre otros, reconocen el papel inspirador de Thin Lizzy en su música, muestra de por qué se les considera una leyenda del rock
